From what we've seen so far, Aizawa's physical prowess is pretty good (think when he fought league of villains). However, when against stronger or even bigger foes he is useless even if he uses his quirk. This is shown when he tried to use his quirk against Noumu only to get pummeled because he was inferior in terms of physical strength.
